The Benefits of Green Tea Weight Loss Drinks

Green tea weight loss is both old and new. Old in the sense that tea has been around for millennia, and new because of all the attention it’s enjoying from people interested in food and food trends – especially the green tea diet one.

For trendy it is. Drinking green tea swept in on the heels of a boomlet in drinking black tea – and that followed hard behind the boom in coffee and specialty coffees of the past six to eight years.

Food companies have brought out packaged green tea in bags over the past couple of years. There are plain, flavored (lemon, peach, mint) and even with antioxidants – this last being kind of redundant, because green tea is naturally full of polyphenol compounds that are mighty good antioxidants with cancer-fighting properties.

We need all the antioxidants we can get, for they are what neutralize free radicals. I don’t do chemistry, so I can’t give you an explanation that’s much more scientific than that, but you can think of the antis and the free radicals as your own little Hoovers and Capones, endlessly duking it out in your bloodstream. So any green tea weight loss drink that’s full of antioxidants is going to be good for you.

Green tea has more polyphenol compounds than black tea. This is because the leaves from which it’s made were steamed, leaving higher levels of polyphenols. Black tea leaves have been heat-dried and oxidized.
